Clean house ??? You mean waivering, trade and more ? Historically, Bergevin naively jumped on players from other teams like a mother of four who hunt those special sails at the grocery. Petry is one of the bad acquisition, a typical minus 20 D guy whom the Oilers never really want in the long run. Why Bergevin got him ? Then cleaning house like what ? He loves great big sales, players that are decently skilled to score like Hoffman who's a naturel 30 goal scorer (go view his record please), but lacks one main critical character necessary for an NHL player to stay on a regular roster for a decade and have success. The actual roster of Bergevin is a melting pot, and that was never the cleanest most skilled way to build a roster, Toffoli ? Hoffman ? Drouin ? Name them. Why were they laid in the first place, ask yourself the question ? A mentally balanced NHL GM never releases a decent well rounded skilled player, never. He does whatever's necessary to sign him. In any other given NHL team, a high caliber GM keep Danault, period, end of story. I could go on and on with Bergevin's questionnable decisions, but he also made good moves historically (Price, Gally, Subban, Markov, Radulov, Halak to name a few). For now, dont clean house. Please for God's sake !!! There was enough moves done on this roster to mess up its whole core, and structure since their last playoff finale appearance, and the last thing you need is to hinder the stability of your roster. At this stage, maybe hiring some high quality NHL counselors would do it minimally for now. For instance, Scotty Bowman or any sort of high caliber man. I know Bowman wont come, but you get my point. Note: I said counselor, not new a coach.

At the end of last season, the Habs had about 25 million in expired contracts, Lekky, Armia, Tatar, Danault, Kulak, Stahl, Perry, Evans, Weber, KK, and a bunch of AHLers, I may have missed someone, but we absolutely needed to acquire a FIRST LINE CENTER and a FIRST PAIRING D-MAN. After that, we could have replaced the lesser lights with Koffman, resign Evans etc.. What does this GM do? He doesn't go for the most important pieces, he piddles it away on the supporting cast. Bergevin is a hockey dunce! And Molson doesn't have the guts to fire a french guy! But have no fear, Drouin is still here….hahahaha

Too many players over rated and over paid, Gally a 6 mil is a joke, the guy is finished, drouin at 5 mil not worth the money, and so may earning too much. I'd try to trade all these big salaries.

One thing is for sure: Timmins can't be the guy in charge of re-building this team through the draft. Think about it… How many legitimate top-6 forwards has he drafted since 2003? Pacioretty and… ? That's just not good enough.

Weber isn't coming back. The only reason he's not making his retirement official is because of the $6M in salary he makes this year. That goes to $3M next year and I suspect he'll make it official then.

Your first goalie out, hall of fame defense out, top four defenseman out, plus all the others… Come on, it's not a situation where you clean the house. The roster is far from what the team is suppose to be. Montréal has to draft better, but cleaning house can take forever.
Edmonton, Buffalo, Pittsburg, Chicago, etc. have been finishing last for a decade before hitting homeruns in draft pick ! Let's be honest those homeruns might not come.
Two players can turn the Montréal franchise around. Top 2 defensemen, a second line center and we are not seeing the same team.
A big task, but it is possible.

The “near future” you say doesn’t look good for this team? In my opinion they are toast for many years to come as they don’t even have a plan going forward!!!! We have Carey Price and that’s it as a “core”. Let’s be honest,,,Petry and Gallagher are NOT impact players anymore,,,Drouin is a flake,,,Savard is finished,,,,so,we don’t have a core to rebuild around to help the kids,,,at least the Rangers had Kryder,,Panarin,,Zibanijab when they thru in the towel,,,all we have is bad contracts,,,Savard,,,Drouin,,Gallagher,,,Petry,,Anderson,,Weber (yes we are still paying him) and no drafting ability,,,no player development ability,,,a rookie coach who’s over his head,,,,blah,,,blah,,blah. I think it’s close to the worst organization in hockey for all of the above reasons!!! Until they hire people for their competence instead of their language skills (French only need apply) then they will be a bottom feeder org.

2021 Shorts: Playing in the North Division, Montreal got off to a red-hot start. However, 2021 they faltered badly even with Price & Weber. This led to the firing of head coach Claude Julien, replaced by Dominic Ducharme. The Habs squeaked into the playoffs only due to the weakness of the North Division. Things looked bleak when the Toronto Maple Leafs took a 3-1 series lead in the first round. However, the Habs with enhanced eyeballs of Price would win the next three games… etc

Step forward: Price issued a statement through the Canadiens and also posted it to his Instagram account. Carey Price said that he voluntarily entered the NHL’s player assistance program more than a month ago due to substance use. Substance abuse – enhanced eyeballs etc? Weber being able to play but had to retire due to injuries? two young centermen treated poorly decide to leave? the Bergevin-Beech story is hidden? how does a Director of Player Development for Chicago not know? … does leave many questions but people's feelings would be hurt to talk about the facts and the truth. so everyone skirts the obvious…

Price isn't going anywhere. There is no way they can move his contract. Seattle was the only way they could have moved him and they passed. And forget the Olympics he's not going to play in the Olympics.

Montreal has had a popgun offence for more than a generation. Only hiring French speaking management instead of the best people for the job is a sure way to be a loser. Coach Lucky Charm has a regular season record worse than any Montreal coach ever. MB hung an albatross around this team by overpaying a goaltender who was way past his prime. Montreal is officially out of the playoffs….stop this delliusional talk.

Carey….Carey….Carey….Horrible management for a generation started by a ego driven Bob Gainey who thought that winning meant forgetting about offence and centre on a goaltender. Price was never the savior of this team, he was you anchor that sank this organization who tanked with a 84% save percent in the finals. Price will never be on a Stanley Cup winner….Regular Season Price….stop living the delusion.

You shouldn't have to rebuild after making it to the cup final. You tweek it to get there next year and win. They obviously got rid of players that were the reason why they made it to the cup final and picked up players that are not making a difference. That is the GM's fault.

Habs got hot in the playoffs and Price went into god mode. Let’s not forget last year in the regular season even with Price, Weber,Danault, Byron, Perry, Staal they were pretty terrible. If it wasn’t for Jake Allen and playing Vancouver and owning them Montreal easily would of missed the playoffs.

Kinda hard to make a call on how good or bad a team is when you're missing so many key players to injuries.
If the team was playing like crap and everybody was healthy then sure, but they're missing a lot of guys.
Just let everybody come back healthy and see how things go from there.

MB has developed a strong relationships with players which doesn't help at the moment because now he can't make tough decisions. Clean house means build the team around Suzuki, he'll hit his peak in 4 years so anyone above 30 years old will need to go that's what clean house means

I am so fed up with this re-build talk I mean seriously the Habs have been only talking about re-building since their last cup conquest in 1993.I dont know about the younger fans but for us committed fans from the 70s are just plain fed up seeing a mediocre team when we were living with a dynasty its unacceptable for us to see this team without a cup since 1993.

No house cleaning, that happens in spring. Play the young guys, bring them up, Poehling, McNiven, Niku, give the veterans a rest. Let them get some rhythm going. Showcase them in case there is a cleaning. They need to focus on a director of hockey operations, manager, and potential coaches first. Top down.
Why tank with no one in place that has a legitimate plan going forward.

I want to see a 2022 fire sale. Every member of management must go! Trade all of the old guard and start fresh. Prioritize high draft picks and good prospects.
