Can Chiefs stay committed to the run in NFL playoffs? | Chris Simms Unbuttoned | NBC Sports

Really, they were not overwhelmed and the Chiefs put up 31 points. Tell is how many of those drives where assisted by penalties and how many games in the NFL can you compare to the Bengals drives that was kept alive by penalties. The Bengals will never be able to replicate this game for the rest of Burrow's career. The Chiefs get the #1 seed after the Texans beat the Titans. No cause for alarm for the Chiefs kingdom.
Wish you'd un-button the penalties, still can't find the Hands to the face call that cost the Chiefs the game… Chris Jones was 3 feet away when the ball was thrown. Hope somehow the Chiefs play the bengals again in the post season with a different officiating team. That one sucked.
Chiefs tried to win without showing much of their playbook cost probably 1 more game
Agree with Simms here. Chiefs have an offensive line that can get after people. Wish they would commit to the run a little more and take some of the load off Mahomes shoulders. Opens up the play action game more as well.
We've seen them run all over teams in the Mahomes era, however they use short passes as an extension of the run similar to the way Buffalo does.
Andy Reid doesn't like to run it therefore they don't. Analytics would also say passing is a much more efficient way of moving the ball and scoring, especially when you have a QB like Mahomes.
To me the bigger question is whether Spags and the defense can hold up against playoff teams? The Chiefs scored close to 30 pts in one half last Sunday, and the offense has been incredibly efficient the last half of the season. The defense just needs stops to get the offense possessions. And they need the refs to not screw them over to extend drives.
Andy always takes his foot off the gas
Yes, Simms is right the Chiefs need to run the ball more. It seems like Andy abandones the run game way to much. The Chiefs spent a lot of money and draft capital on the Offensive line and they have had enough time together to start jelling together as a unit
I appreciate what Chris is saying. A lot of Chiefs fans have been clamoring for the Chiefs to run more power… ESPECIALLY with Clyde Edwards-Helaire. All 3 of their backs (CEH, Williams, Gore) are better at running in a power/gap scheme. It makes sense because CEH and Williams both played at LSU. Clyde especially was DEADLY running duo. If the Chiefs did more of that with Clyde especially, their running game would be near unstoppable. I believe if they did that with Clyde… NO ONE would play 2 deep against them for an entire game because there would be very little difference between their running game and passing game in terms of how dangerous they are. Defenses would be forced to play more aggressive near the line of scrimmage and then Mahomes would start picking them apart in the passing game. The Chiefs offense truly is a double edged sword, but for much of this season they have been hesitant to use one of those edges.
Gore and Williams are good backs too
That game against Buffalo in the AFC title game last year says they can and it also says we haven’t seen the full evolution of the offense yet.
All regular season games are tough to win. Playoff even tougher. Still, I trust my Chiefs more than most teams
I hope they run into the Bengals again. I promise you that it won't be the same outcome.
